Probably one of the most emotional and difficult decisions a pet owner has to face is losing a beloved pet. At Streetly Vets, euthanasia and cremation services are operated with the utmost care and sensitivity by our staff. All the staff here at the surgery has, at some time, had to make this decision for their own pets and we understand what a difficult and emotional time it can be.
There is no rush with the decision making process and clients can spend as much time with their pet as required. The team are on hand to offer support throughout.
Some pets will die peacefully of old age at home, others become seriously ill, suffer a traumatic injury or have a very poor quality of life in old age. In these difficult circumstances you may have to think about having your pet put to sleep so as to relieve it from chronic pain or suffering.
Often you will realise, or your pet will let you know when it’s time for them to be put sleep, but we will be happy to help you with this difficult decision. Some issues that could suggest that your pet no longer has a good quality of life include:
• Cannot stand on their own or falls down when trying to walk
• Incontinent to the degree that they frequently wet or soil themselves
• Loss of appetite
• Chronic pain that cannot be controlled with medication
• Chronic vomiting or diarrhoea that is causing dehydration and/or significant weight loss
• No interest in their favourite activities
• Chronic laboured breathing or coughing
If your pet has any of the symptoms above, please call us to book a consultation where we can discuss all available options.
Streetly Vets provide a euthanasia service where you and your pet will be treated with our customary compassion. We will tailor this sensitive service to suit you. We can discuss all of the available options with you on the day or before if you prefer.
We can also offer advice on your options for cremation and burial.
